Peter Emberson Fiji, District 9920
Peter worked for the Pacific Concerns Resource Centre, in Suva Fiji as Assistant Director – [Information Division] for the past 5 years prior to commencing his Masters at the University of Queensland. He holds a Double Major Degree in History/ Politics and Journalism from the University of the South Pacific. Peter conducted his Applied Field Experience with the Spirit In Education Movement in Laos- Vientiane and wrote his thesis on the Role of News Media in Fiji’s Post Coup Reconstruction Process focusing on blogs as a form of resistance.
Andrea Fanta USA, District 6760
Andrea is proudly sponsored by the Dickson High Noon Rotary Club in Tennessee, located in the southern United States. During her time in Australia, she has found a Rotary home with her host counselors, Wesley Miles and Gillian Potter, and the Goodna Rotary Club of District 9630. Andrea completed her Applied Field Experience in Lima, Peru, where she worked for the UNESCO Field Office on communications duty and helping rebuild southern Peru’s educational facilities following an August earthquake there. She will return to the United States on graduation to return to public service there. Cássio Furtado Brazil, District 4680
Cássio Furtado, 29, holds a Master of Arts degree in Social Sciences from the Global Studies Programme of the University of Freiburg, Germany, and undergraduate degrees in International Studies, Journalism and Political Science from the University of Kansas, U.S.A. Cássio’s university career began when he was 16 and became the youngest student to be admitted to Law School in Southern Brazil, his native country. Since then, he has conducted studies or research at universities in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, India, South Africa and the United States, and, as a journalist, he has worked as a reporter for newspapers such as The Miami Herald, The Tampa Tribune and Knight Ridder, all in the United States.
Rita Gonzales USA, District 6910
Rita comes from Georgia, USA. Her sponsor Rotary club is Dawsonville Rotary Club and my host club is Mt. Gravatt. Rita is currently doing her thesis research on the global governance of HIV/AIDS. In her thesis, Rita analyses the United States' President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), its implementation in select sub-Sahara African countries and its impact and implications on the global governance of HIV/AIDS. Upon the completion of the fellowship program, Rita plans to return to the U.S. and hopes to work with global health issues.
Vikas Gora India, District 3020
Vikas Gora hails from a family of Gandhian social reformers from India. He is a social worker by profession and has 10 years of integrated development and disaster management experience, and also had worked in the fields of human rights, coastal and drought prone area development, institution building and promoting environment consciousness. His last job was as the Director, Disaster Management Wing of Arthik Samata Mandal, an NGO working for vulnerability reduction and disaster preparedness in south India. He also worked in CARE India, Child Rights and You, Coady International Institute, and is a consultant to various international organizations and managed high value projects. He has studied environmental journalism, community development, people’s diplomacy and nonviolence in India and abroad. His passion in disaster management led him to pursue a part time Ph.D., on Community Based Disaster Preparedness. His career goal is to work in the UN at the policy level and to address the socio-economic vulnerability issues in the South East Asian region. Sheunesu Hove Zimbabwe, District 9210
Sheunesu Hove hails from Zimbabwe. His is a practitioner, with 17 years of experience in working in the fields of peace, conflict resolution and education, both at the grassroots and at the organizational level. He is active in promoting peace through National Council of Churches, Zimbabwe. He is actively involved in advocacy by being a member of Institute of Personnel Management, Zimbabwe, Amnesty International, Australia and Peace to Come International. His career goal is to join UN to work in the fields of human rights, good governance and capacity building of civil society organizations, which he believes are important for any democracy. He is thankful to Rotary for giving him the prestigious opportunity as a Peace Fellow which will help in strengthening his tenacity of purpose.
Christopher Moore USA, District 5340
Christopher Moore received his undergraduate degrees in International Affairs and Spanish from the University of Nevada, Reno. He has lived in Spain, Mexico, China, the USA and Australia. His work experience includes the Northern Nevada International Center, UNESCO, Habitat for Humanity International, and the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival among others.
Christopher’s career plans are to enhance the stability or our global community through the development of peaceful solutions working as a mediator with NGOs, government institutions, the UN and charities operating in conflict areas and other volatile regions of the world.
Cecilia Lwiindi Nedziwe South Africa, District 9250
Born on 2December 1978, in Lusaka, Zambia, Cecilia attended primary school in four different schools in Zambia and high school at Caritas-Convent Girls School in Kabwe where she obtained an Ordinary Level School Certificate. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics with the Don-State University, Rostov-on-Don, Russia, a Pre-Higher Education certificate and a certificate in Professional Development Programme on the Methodology of teaching Russian Language as foreign language from the Don-State University.
Before moving to Brisbane, Australia to pursue her Master’s programme in International Studies-Peace and Conflict Resolution, Cecilia worked as researcher for a regional peace organization called Centre for Peace Initiatives in Africa, based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Previously, she also worked for a Quaker organization called the American Friends Service Committee as Programme Intern under the Southern Africa Quaker International Affairs on the Peace and Economic Justice Programme. Her area of interest is peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
Ville-Veikko Pitkänen Finland, District 1430 
Ville was once a member of Finnish Rapid Deployment Force; a special military unit tailor-made for international crisis management. Ville has international work experience from Kosovo, Egypt and Cambodia. He has a master’s degree on social sciences from the University of Kuopio, Finland, where his studies incorporated also a year of university studies in the University of Minnesota, USA. In his previous studies, Ville has concentrated on social policy planning, and particularly in easing the life of individuals in the biggest need. In his thesis at University of Kuopio, Ville explored the definition and measurements of poverty. At the UQ, he has just finished his thesis investigating UN peacekeeping blunders of the 1990s. After graduating, Ville hopes to work within social justice issues either in Finland or abroad.
Kristin Post USA, District 7710
Before arriving to the University of Queensland, Kristin lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and completed a Master's Degree in Education that focused on Curriculum and Public Policy. Prior to that, she worked in a global education museum that emphasized cultural understanding through participatory learning. She also travelled around the world for one year, and enjoyed the hospitality of her neighbours in several countries. Kristin is deeply grateful for the support she has received on all levels of Rotary. She is inspired and energized to dedicate her life to the transformative community building experiences through education.
