Background:
Gillian Whitehouse has an international reputation for cross-nationally comparative and Australian-based research on gender pay equity. Her work has been cited by agencies including the OECD and the British Equal Opportunities Commission, in a number of top international journals (including the American Sociological Review, Relations Industriales and the British Journal of Industrial Relations), and has been used in cases before industrial tribunals in Australia. She appeared as an expert witness before the NSW and Queensland Pay Equity Inquiries, and in recent pay equity cases held before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. A significant contribution of her work on gender pay equity has been to illustrate the connection between industrial relations systems, institutional frameworks and gender equity outcomes, and her work on this issue has been published in high ranking international journals (including Work, Employment & Society, Industrial Relations Journal, Gender, Work & Organization, British Journal of Industrial Relations). Her research projects and consultancies in the area of gender equity in employment total over $2 million.
