Background:
Richard Devetak has published on contemporary theoretical debates in international relations, humanitarian intervention, the ‘war on terror’, and globalisation’s implications for justice and the state. He has also published on foreign policy, refugees and national identity in the Australian context. His major contribution has been in the area of international relations theory, more specifically in the exposition and analysis of Frankfurt School Critical Theory and post-structuralism. His writings in these areas have been published in leading International Relations journals including International Affairs, Millennium and Review of International Studies. He is also co-editor of two forthcoming books: Security and the War on Terror, edited by Alex Bellamy, Roland Bleiker, Sara Davies and Richard Devetak (London: Routledge, 2008) and The Globalization of Political Violence: Globalization’s Shadow, edited by Richard Devetak and Christopher Hughes (London: Routledge, 2008).
His current research interests include: the history of international political thought, history of the states-system, international law, the laws of war, humanitarian intervention, the changing character of warfare and the impact of terrorism, torture and states of exception on international society.
